ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Canada have issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to expanding bilateral relations, boosting trade and investment, and strengthening cooperation across a range of strategic sectors.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand agreed to enhance trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges during high-level discussions.
Canada appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, while both countries reiterated their commitment to its implementation and to supporting a sustainable ceasefire.
The two sides also emphasized the importance of concluding negotiations on the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPPA) at the earliest opportunity to encourage greater investment and provide stronger legal safeguards for investors.
Pakistan and Canada agreed to reactivate the Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment to identify new commercial opportunities and deepen economic cooperation.

The joint statement highlighted plans to expand collaboration in clean energy, mining, infrastructure development, agriculture, emerging technologies, and environmental protection.
Both countries also recognized the significance of the 240-megawatt Dhabeji Hybrid Wind-Solar Project, being developed by a Canadian company, describing it as a key example of Canadian investment in Pakistan.
In the agriculture sector, the two governments agreed to enhance bilateral trade in canola, pulses, soybeans, rice, spices, and fresh fruits. A new phytosanitary protocol facilitating the import of Canadian canola into Pakistan was also signed during the visit.

The statement further noted that Pakistan and Canada agreed to promote trade and investment in the minerals sector, reflecting growing interest in expanding economic cooperation beyond traditional areas.
On security cooperation, Canada announced continued collaboration with Pakistan through the United Nations and INTERPOL to support counterterrorism efforts.
Canada also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development initiatives in education, climate change adaptation, and healthcare.
Both governments agreed to maintain regular high-level exchanges and conduct annual reviews of bilateral cooperation to ensure continued progress across diplomatic, economic, and development sectors.
