MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has revised the schedule for the upcoming elections, announcing that polling will now be conducted in three phases instead of a single day.
Addressing a press conference in Muzaffarabad, Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said the decision was taken due to the availability of Pakistan Army personnel required to ensure security during the electoral process.
According to the revised schedule, polling in the Mirpur Division will take place on July 27, followed by voting in the Muzaffarabad Division on August 2. The final phase of elections in the Poonch Division will be held on August 10.
The Chief Election Commissioner also announced that polling for 12 refugee seats will be conducted alongside the Muzaffarabad Division elections on August 2.
He emphasized that the elections will be held under the supervision of the Pakistan Army to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and orderly voting process. The phased schedule, he said, was finalized solely on the basis of the availability of military personnel for election security.

A day earlier, Ghulam Mustafa Mughal had reaffirmed that the elections would be held on time, stating that all administrative and logistical preparations had already been completed.
