TEHRAN, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a stern warning to regional countries supporting the United States, saying they will face a strong response if they continue assisting Washington’s military operations in the region.
In a statement, the IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as long as the United States continued what it described as threats and interference in regional maritime navigation.
The statement accused Washington of escalating tensions in the Gulf, saying continued U.S. military involvement would further complicate the regional security situation.
The IRGC also claimed that two oil tankers attempted to leave the southern section of the Strait of Hormuz overnight through a maritime route that the force had previously declared unsafe, allegedly under the direction of U.S. military aircraft.
According to the IRGC, one of the tankers suddenly caught fire during the transit attempt, prompting both vessels to turn back. The statement did not provide further details on the cause of the fire or the condition of the vessels.
