Outgoing Azerbaijani Envoy Meets Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, Bilateral Ties Set for Further Growth

ISLAMABAD, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening its longstanding brotherly relationship with Azerbaijan, while appreciating the significant progress achieved in bilateral cooperation over the past two and a half years.

The remarks came during a farewell meeting with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, who called on the prime minister at the conclusion of his diplomatic assignment in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recalled the extensive high-level exchanges between the two countries in recent years and expressed confidence that the strong foundation established during Ambassador Farhadov’s tenure would continue to guide bilateral relations toward greater cooperation.

He praised the ambassador’s dedicated efforts in strengthening the historic friendship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and acknowledged his role in broadening collaboration across multiple sectors.

Growing Cooperation Across Key Sectors

The prime minister commended Ambassador Farhadov for contributing to enhanced cooperation in:

  • Political relations
  • Trade and investment
  • Economic collaboration
  • Defence cooperation
  • Cultural exchanges
  • People-to-people contacts

He also highlighted the successful launch of direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, describing it as an important step in bringing the people of both countries closer together.

Prime Minister Shehbaz conveyed his warm regards to President Ilham Aliyev and fondly recalled his several visits to Azerbaijan during the past two and a half years, as well as President Aliyev’s official visit to Pakistan in July 2024, which further strengthened the strategic partnership between the two friendly nations.

The prime minister also wished Ambassador Farhadov success in his future diplomatic responsibilities.

Ambassador Khazar Farhadov expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Government and people of Pakistan for the hospitality, friendship, and support extended to him throughout his tenure.

He described his posting in Pakistan as one of the most memorable chapters of his diplomatic career and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to further deepening its strategic partnership with Pakistan.

During the meeting, Ambassador Farhadov presented the prime minister with a book based on his family’s experiences of living in Pakistan, reflecting the close personal and cultural bonds developed during his stay.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence that Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations would continue to grow across political, economic, defence, and cultural fields.
