WASHINGTON, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States is actively searching for Iranian assets across the globe, stating that any recovered funds are intended to benefit the Iranian people.
Speaking to reporters, Bessent said Washington is pursuing Iranian assets “all around the world” as part of its broader financial strategy toward Iran.
“We are searching for Iranian assets all around the world, and that money will go to the Iranian people,” Bessent said.
The Treasury Secretary did not specify which assets were being targeted, how much had been identified, or under what legal framework the funds would eventually be transferred to benefit Iranian citizens.
His remarks come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain elevated, with the United States continuing to expand sanctions enforcement and financial measures targeting Iranian-linked entities and overseas assets.
US officials have repeatedly stated that their sanctions are aimed at Iran’s government and affiliated organizations rather than the Iranian population, while Tehran has consistently condemned such measures as illegal and harmful to its economy.
No additional details were immediately released regarding the scope or timeline of the asset recovery effort.
