RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has welcomed a statement by members of the United Nations Security Council condemning attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom and commercial shipping.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the international community must ensure effective implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and take steps to prevent actions that threaten regional security and stability.
Saudi Arabia Cites Missile and Maritime Attacks
According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the Houthis have carried out missile attacks against Saudi Arabia since July 13.
The ministry also said commercial vessels have been targeted since July 22, raising concerns over the security of international maritime routes.
Riyadh described the attacks as a threat to regional security and maritime navigation.
Call for Implementation of UN Resolutions
Saudi Arabia called on the international community to ensure the effective implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen.
The Kingdom specifically stressed the importance of Resolution 2216, including respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Riyadh also called for measures to prevent activities that could threaten regional peace, security and stability.
Riyadh Reaffirms Commitment to Maritime Security
Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to freedom of navigation and the protection of international maritime routes.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the Kingdom would take all necessary measures to protect its security, sovereignty and citizens against any attacks.
The statement comes amid continued concerns over threats to commercial shipping routes in and around the Red Sea and surrounding waters.
Saudi Arabia Supports Yemen Peace Efforts
The Saudi government also reiterated its support for international efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen.
Riyadh reaffirmed its continued backing for Yemen’s internationally recognised government and stressed that a sustainable political settlement remains essential for long-term stability.
According to Saudi Arabia, lasting peace and stability in Yemen would contribute to strengthening regional security and improving the safety of commercial maritime navigation.
