Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide at the Prime Minister’s House on Thursday. The two sides discussed bilateral relations, trade, investment and regional developments.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the Norwegian foreign minister and expressed satisfaction with the warm and friendly ties between Pakistan and Norway.
Pakistan Seeks Greater Economic Cooperation
The prime minister appreciated Norway’s cooperation with Pakistan in several important areas.
These include education, skilled workforce development, climate resilience and technology.
Shehbaz Sharif also expressed Pakistan’s strong interest in expanding bilateral trade with Norway. He invited Norwegian companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector.
The prime minister said stronger economic ties could create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Pakistan Appreciates Norway’s Position on Palestine
The leaders also discussed regional and global developments.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Norway’s strong and principled position in support of Palestine. He also thanked Norway for its continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the Gulf region.
Pakistan has consistently called for diplomacy and dialogue to address regional tensions.
Norway Praises Pakistan’s Regional Role
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm welcome.
He conveyed greetings and best wishes from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Eide praised Pakistan’s important role in efforts to promote regional peace. He also reaffirmed Norway’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors.
The Norwegian foreign minister particularly appreciated the positive contribution of the Pakistani community living in Norway.
Shehbaz Invites Norwegian Prime Minister to Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to undertake an official visit to Pakistan.
The visit could provide an opportunity to further strengthen political, economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The meeting also highlighted the potential for greater cooperation in trade, investment, technology, education and climate-related areas.
Senior Officials Attend Meeting
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik and Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain were also present.
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and other senior officials also attended the meeting
