Dhaka: Bangladesh has expressed interest in joining the Mecca defense agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye.
Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir, said Dhaka has communicated its interest in becoming part of the agreement.
Bangladesh Signals Interest in Defense Pact
According to media reports, Kabir said Bangladesh had expressed interest in the Mecca defense agreement.
He said Bangladesh is a recognized country and has strong ties with the wider Muslim world. He added that Muslim countries and partners around the world are increasingly engaging with Bangladesh’s leadership.
Kabir also said Bangladesh sees participation in an Islamic security agreement in West Asia as a possible step. He described the idea as neither unusual nor unexpected.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the joint defense agreement in Mecca on August 7.
The agreement aims to strengthen collective security and deepen defense cooperation among the three countries. It also seeks to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.
The agreement was signed during a trilateral summit at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed the agreement.
