QUETTA: Pakistan’s security forces killed 21 militants during two operations in Balochistan, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operations took place in Chagai and Pishin during the night between August 31 and September 1.
Six security personnel and officials also died during exchanges of fire, including two officers and a Customs Department employee, ISPR said.
Militants Targeted on N40 Highway
According to ISPR, militants attempted to disrupt passenger movement on the Quetta-Taftan National Highway N40.
The militants also tried to establish an illegal checkpoint to extort money from travelers, the military’s media wing said.
Security forces responded quickly after receiving information about the activity.
Following an intense exchange of fire, troops killed 11 militants, according to ISPR.
Security forces also recovered a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives from the militants.

Attack on Customs House
In another incident, militants attacked the Customs House during the same night.
According to ISPR, the attackers attempted to take control of the facility.
Security forces responded to the assault and engaged the militants in a heavy exchange of fire.
The operation resulted in the deaths of 10 militants, ISPR said.
Security forces also pursued fleeing militants in nearby areas. As a result, more militants were killed or wounded, according to the statement.
Six Personnel Martyred
Six personnel died during the exchanges of fire.
ISPR said the martyrs included two officers and a government employee from the Customs Department.
The military described their deaths as a sacrifice made while defending the area and protecting public institutions.
Security Forces Continue Clearance Operations
ISPR described the attack on the Customs House as an example of what it called a link between terrorism and criminal activity.
According to the military, the attackers aimed to prevent Customs officials from performing their legal duties.
The military also said the attack sought to help criminal activities continue in the area.
Meanwhile, security forces have continued clearance operations in surrounding areas.
Pakistan Vows to Continue Counterterrorism Operations
The military said its campaign against terrorism would continue with full force and determination.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating terrorism, ISPR said.
The latest operations come as Pakistani authorities continue efforts to prevent militant attacks and criminal networks from operating in Balochistan.
Authorities have not yet provided further details about the identities or affiliations of the militants killed in the operations.
