The aircraft carrier docked at Laem Chabang port, near the popular resort city of Pattaya. The stop gives the crew a rare chance to leave the ship after one of the longest uninterrupted deployments in recent US Navy history.
Many sailors have quickly headed into Pattaya for rest, shopping and entertainment. Some have chosen simple activities such as pedicures, massages and buying new clothes.
Others are looking for gifts for their families and favorite foods after months at sea.
Sailors Look for Food, Gifts and Basic Supplies
Reports from Pattaya show sailors visiting shops, restaurants and local businesses during their short stay.
Some crew members have said they want to buy new socks and gifts for their wives. Others have taken the opportunity to enjoy Thai food and spend time away from the ship.
The long deployment followed the US military’s operations in the Middle East amid the conflict involving Iran. The extended mission kept the carrier and its crew away from normal port visits for months.

Mayor Poramet Ngampichet said that if each US service member spends between $100 and $150 per day, the visit could generate around 100 million Thai baht, or roughly $3 million, in local economic activity.
The estimate includes spending on restaurants, shopping, transportation and entertainment.
Authorities Tighten Security
The arrival of thousands of US military personnel has also prompted Thai authorities to increase security and monitoring in Pattaya.
The city is well known for its nightlife, including areas associated with the sex industry. Thai authorities have taken steps to manage the large influx of sailors and prevent potential problems during the port visit.
US naval officials have also stressed the importance of respecting Thai laws and local customs.
