Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Tahir Hussain Andrabi, has presented his credentials to the Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva.
Andrabi presented the credentials to Director-General Tatiana Valovaya on September 9, 2026. The United Nations confirmed the meeting in its official record.
The Pakistani envoy reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working with the United Nations on global peace and security.
Focus on Global Cooperation
Andrabi also pledged to strengthen cooperation with the UN and other partners in Geneva.
He said Pakistan would continue working with international partners on shared goals. These include human rights, economic development and international peace.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of close engagement with the UN and other Geneva-based partners.
Andrabi Brings Wide Diplomatic Experience
The new Pakistani envoy has held several important diplomatic posts.
Before his Geneva appointment, Andrabi served as spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served as Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security from 2023 to 2025.

Earlier, he served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Tunisia and was also accredited to Malta. He previously worked as Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva from 2017 to 2021.
Andrabi has also served at Pakistan’s missions in Beijing and New York. His career includes several senior positions at the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s Role in Multilateral Diplomacy
The appointment comes as Pakistan continues an active role in multilateral diplomacy in Geneva.
Pakistan assumed the presidency of the UN Conference on Disarmament in August 2026. Andrabi had chaired the conference in his earlier role as Additional Secretary for Arms Control and Disarmament.
Therefore, his experience in disarmament and international security will remain relevant to Pakistan’s diplomatic work in Geneva.
Pakistan has also reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the UN and its international partners.
