The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) have signed practical arrangements for safeguards at Unit 5 of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi announced the development during the IAEA General Conference (#IAEAGC).
Grossi said he signed the arrangements with PAEC Chairman Raja Ali Raza Anwar.
The signing took place in the presence of China Atomic Energy Authority Chairman Shan Zhongde.
Safeguards for Chashma Unit 5
The arrangements cover the application of IAEA safeguards at Unit 5 of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant.
IAEA safeguards help verify that nuclear material and facilities remain under peaceful use commitments.
The agreement marks a further step in cooperation between the IAEA and Pakistan on nuclear safeguards.
