KABUL, — Afghanistan has condemned the suicide attack at a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi said attacks on mosques and other sacred places are unjustifiable. He also expressed sympathy to the families of those killed in the attack.
Attack During Friday Prayers
The attack took place on Friday during prayers at a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines.
An explosives-filled vehicle struck the police compound. Armed attackers then entered the facility, leading to a gun battle with police and security forces.
According to Pakistani officials, 22 people died in the attack. The victims included 16 police personnel and six civilians.
Another 103 people suffered injuries. Officials said 73 of the injured were police personnel, while 30 were civilians.
Afghanistan Expresses Condolences
Balkhi said Afghanistan strongly condemned the attack on the mosque.
He also called attacks on sacred places and worshippers unacceptable. The Afghan Foreign Ministry expressed sympathy to the families of the victims.
Meanwhile, Pakistani security forces completed an operation at the police compound on Saturday. Officials said eight militants were killed during the operation.
The attack has drawn condemnation from several countries as Pakistan continues to face militant violence in parts of the country.
