The longstanding issue of bank accounts for religious seminaries in Pakistan has been resolved, according to Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi.
Ashrafi said on Wednesday that banks in Islamabad had started opening accounts for madrasas.
He welcomed the development and said it addressed a long-standing demand of religious seminaries.
Religious Leaders Review Account Opening Process
Ashrafi visited an MCB Bank branch with several religious scholars and representatives of madrassa bodies.
The delegation reviewed the process of opening bank accounts for religious seminaries. They expressed satisfaction with the progress.
The delegation included Dr. Asim Mir, Maulana Zubair Faheem, Mufti Karim Khan and Mufti Yusuf Kashmiri of the Muttahida Madaris Council.
Muttahida Jamiat Ahle Hadith Amir Syed Ziaullah Shah Bukhari also joined the visit. Representatives of Wifaq-ul-Madaris wal-Jaameaat, including Maulana Tahir Aqeel and Maulana Qasim Qasmi, were also present.

Ashrafi expressed gratitude to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
He attributed the progress to their personal interest and efforts to resolve the issue of bank accounts for religious seminaries.
He also appreciated the role of the Director General of Religious Education (DGRE). Ashrafi said the DGRE helped facilitate the process and implement the decision.
Banking Access for Religious Seminaries
The development follows earlier efforts to address administrative and financial issues faced by religious seminaries.
In August, religious education boards and madrassa representatives had also welcomed progress on facilitating bank accounts and improving financial systems. They stressed the importance of proper documentation and transparent financial management.
The latest development is expected to provide registered religious seminaries with greater access to formal banking services.
