TEHRAN — Iran has conveyed its conditions to the United States, but US President Donald Trump is unable to make a decision, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Major General Mohsen Rezaei said on Tuesday.
Rezaei made the remarks during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev in Tehran.
According to Rezaei, Trump is caught between negotiations and military action. He said the US president can neither pursue talks nor choose war.
Rezaei also claimed that the United States had resorted to military pressure because of what he described as frustration over the situation.
Iran Awaits US Response
Rezaei said Iran expected a response from Washington to its seven-point peace proposal. However, he said the United States had not formally accepted or rejected the proposal.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said before leaving New York that Tehran’s position on its nuclear programme had not changed. He added that the seven-point proposal focuses on conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposal was sent to Washington through Qatari mediation. Iran is now waiting for an official US response through the mediators.
The latest discussions also involve efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route. Reuters reported that the Iranian proposal includes steps linked to ending hostilities, easing sanctions and reopening the waterway.
Rezaei Says Iran Ready for Caucasus Peace
During his meeting with Mustafayev, Rezaei said Iran was ready to help promote peace in the Caucasus.
He also said the United States had no future in the region. Rezaei stressed that Iran would continue to oppose US influence there.
Meanwhile, Mustafayev rejected claims that Azerbaijan had allowed its territory to be used for military operations against Iran. He described relations between Azerbaijan and Iran as friendly and close.
Iran Says It Defended Itself
Rezaei also said Iran had used its full military capability to defend itself against attacks by the United States and Israel.
Those remarks reflect Tehran’s position on the ongoing conflict. The claims about military operations and the conduct of the conflict remain statements by Iranian officials.
The latest comments come as Iran and the United States continue indirect diplomatic contacts through mediators. Both sides remain divided over the conditions for ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
