TEHRAN — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said talks with the United States have little value because Tehran does not trust Washington.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Tehran, Iranian media reported.
Pezeshkian Questions US Interest in Talks
The Iranian president said Iran faced attacks after it entered negotiations.
According to Pezeshkian, Iran faced three attacks after diplomatic talks. He said this showed that the United States had no real interest in dialogue.
Pezeshkian also accused Washington of seeking to overthrow Iran’s government.
He criticized what he described as US killings, sanctions, pressure, threats and broken promises.
The Iranian president said talks had little value when one side continued to use pressure and did not honor its commitments.
Qalibaf Warns Against Foreign Role in Caucasus
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also met Mirzoyan during the visit.
Qalibaf said the Caucasus should not become a field for geopolitical rivalry.
He pointed to the security situation in the Persian Gulf and said outside powers had increased insecurity through their involvement.
The Iranian speaker called for greater regional cooperation on security issues.
Armenia Gives Security Assurance to Iran
Mirzoyan said Armenia would not allow its territory to serve as a base for actions against Iran.
The Armenian foreign minister also stressed the importance of protecting the current borders of countries in the region.
His comments came as Tehran and Yerevan discussed regional security and relations.
The two sides also reviewed cooperation and developments in the South Caucasus.
