Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has rejected proposals to impose governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He said his party would develop a strong political strategy to oppose the move.

Fazlur Rehman also questioned the government’s approach to counterterrorism. He argued that if authorities consider an emergency necessary, they should impose it at the federal level instead.

Ishaq Dar Discusses Proposal with JUI-F Chief

Fazlur Rehman said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called him at 10:30 pm. According to Fazlur Rehman, Dar discussed the possible imposition of governor’s rule and an emergency in KP.

He said Dar argued that the provincial government was not cooperating with the federal government in the fight against terrorism.

However, Fazlur Rehman rejected comparisons between KP and Balochistan. He said the two provinces face different circumstances. He also questioned why the authorities were considering emergency measures for KP but not for Balochistan.

Fazlur Rehman Questions Counterterrorism Strategy

The JUI-F chief criticised the government’s counterterrorism policy. He said repeated military operations had failed to deliver the desired results. Therefore, he questioned the effectiveness of the existing strategy.

Fazlur Rehman added that people were asking his party to support military operations. However, he said the government should first explain the results of previous operations.

He also stressed that JUI-F had suffered losses in the fight against terrorism. According to him, the party’s religious scholars had also lost their lives.

JUI-F Chief Accuses Government of Breaking Promises

Fazlur Rehman accused the government of failing to honour its commitments. He said he had witnessed the government give assurances but later fail to fulfil them.

He also criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). According to Fazlur Rehman, the party had undermined the Constitution and human rights. He further argued that imposing governor’s rule for a third time contradicted democratic principles.

Talks with PTI Leaders and Prime Minister

Fazlur Rehman said he had held a conference call with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Sohail Afridi, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Asad Qaiser.

During the conversation, he said, he informed the PTI leadership that it could end its long march if the authorities accepted its demands.

He also said he had spoken with the prime minister. Fazlur Rehman explained that he urged the premier to resolve the issues surrounding a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan and arrangements for his medical treatment.

According to Fazlur Rehman, the prime minister agreed to the proposal. After that conversation, Fazlur Rehman said he informed PTI leaders about the development.

Fazlur Rehman Says Mediation Failed

The JUI-F chief also discussed his role as a mediator. He said a mediator should help resolve disputes when tensions rise between opposing sides.

However, he argued that the government had failed to honour its promises. He reiterated that JUI-F would not accept governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Fazlur Rehman said his party would now prepare a strong political response to oppose the proposed measures.
