Pakistan’s federal government has formally authorised the deployment of Pakistan Army troops and resources in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The move aims to support the civil administration and protect citizens and government installations.
The government approved the deployment under Article 245 of Pakistan’s Constitution. The authorisation will remain in effect for the duration of the proclamation issued on October 11, 2026, under Articles 232 and 234.
Army to Support Civil Administration
According to the order, the Pakistan Army will assist civil authorities in maintaining law and order across the province. The deployment aims to protect lives, property and public safety.
In addition, army personnel and resources will help secure government installations. The order links the deployment directly to the period covered by the earlier proclamation.
KP Governor to Determine Troop Strength
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi will determine the number of troops and resources required for the deployment. He will consult the Military Operations Directorate at General Headquarters (GHQ) before making that decision.
The notification does not specify a fixed number of troops. Instead, it assigns the governor and the military operations authorities responsibility for assessing the requirements.
Order to Be Published in Official Gazette
The federal government will publish the deployment order in the next issue of the Gazette of Pakistan, Part II. This publication will formally record the authorisation.
The order establishes the legal basis for the army’s assistance to the civil administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period covered by the emergency proclamation.
