SRINAGAR: Kashmiris are observing a Black Day today as India marks its Independence Day. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference called for protests against Indian rule in occupied Kashmir.
Freedom leaders and political groups have supported the call. Meanwhile, Kashmiris living in different parts of the world are also planning demonstrations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protests aim to draw global attention to the situation in occupied Kashmir.
Protests Planned in Kashmir and Around the World
Kashmiris will hold protests on both sides of the Line of Control. Communities abroad will also stage demonstrations.
The protesters seek to highlight what they describe as ongoing Indian actions in the occupied territory.

Security Tightened Across Srinagar
Meanwhile, Indian authorities have increased security across occupied Kashmir.
Srinagar has come under particularly tight security ahead of India’s Independence Day events.
Security forces have placed several security layers around Bakshi Stadium. They are checking vehicles, passengers and pedestrians in the area.
Authorities have also increased security measures at other locations across the city.
Main Independence Day Event at Bakshi Stadium
Indian authorities will hold the main Independence Day ceremony at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
The heavy security presence comes as the All Parties Hurriyat Conference observes the day as a Black Day.
At the same time, freedom leaders and groups have backed the protest call. They say the demonstrations will highlight the Kashmir issue before the international community.
Kashmiris Continue Their Protest
Kashmiri groups have long used India’s Independence Day as an occasion to voice opposition to Indian rule.
