BISHKEK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has signed the declaration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit in Bishkek.
The signing took place during the formal ceremony for the summit declaration.
Leaders of SCO member states also signed the document. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping were among the leaders who signed the declaration.
Pakistan to Chair SCO Council
Pakistan will take over the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–27.
The chairmanship will give Islamabad a key role in coordinating the organisation’s activities during the coming year.
Pakistan will work with SCO members to advance the organisation’s agreed priorities.
Shehbaz Sharif Holds Meeting With Iranian President
On the sidelines of the SCO summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Bishkek.
The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and regional developments.
Their meeting took place during a series of bilateral engagements involving leaders attending the SCO summit.
Ishaq Dar Meets Iranian Foreign Minister
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Bishkek.
The meeting took place ahead of the SCO Council of Heads of State session.
The two foreign ministers discussed regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
Pakistan’s participation in the summit reflects Islamabad’s focus on regional cooperation and stronger engagement with SCO member states.
As Pakistan begins its 2026–27 chairmanship, Islamabad is expected to work closely with the SCO Secretariat and member countries to advance the organisation’s agenda.
