SRINAGAR, Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik has refused to continue fighting his legal case in an Indian court, expressing a lack of confidence in the country’s judicial system.
Malik said he would accept even a death sentence for the cause of Kashmir.
He submitted a 25-page affidavit to a court in Srinagar in connection with the 1990 killing of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhat.
In the affidavit, Malik categorically denied allegations that he was involved in Bhat’s killing.
Malik Says He Will Leave His Case to God
Malik accused the Indian government of attempting to implicate him in what he described as a false case decades after the alleged incident.

Malik also stressed that accepting a judicial sentence would not mean accepting the allegations against him.
The latest development comes as Indian authorities continue to pursue legal proceedings against the jailed Kashmiri leader.
Claims About Vajpayee-Era Contacts
In his affidavit, Malik also made claims about contacts during the government of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He alleged that former Indian officials Ajit Doval, Brajesh Mishra and R.K. Mishra had asked him to play a positive role in improving India-Pakistan relations.
Malik claimed that his subsequent contacts with Pakistan were later used as evidence against him.
He presented the allegations as part of his wider criticism of the Indian government’s case against him.
Message to Wife Mushaal Malik
Malik also addressed his wife, Mushaal Malik, in his statement.
He thanked her for standing by him with courage and said he was releasing her from their marital relationship.

Malik asked her to begin a new life, saying she still had many years ahead of her.
His message also included a request to their daughter, Razia Sultana.
He asked his daughter to call her grandmother in Srinagar every day so that she would not feel alone during the difficult period.
Malik Has Been in Tihar Jail Since 2019
Yasin Malik has been imprisoned in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019.
In 2022, an Indian court sentenced him to two life terms and imposed a fine of 1 million Indian rupees in a case under India’s anti-terror laws.
Indian authorities have also pursued the separate case linked to the killing of Sarla Bhat.
Malik has consistently rejected the allegations against him and has criticized the Indian judicial process.
His latest affidavit marks a further decision to distance himself from what he considers an unfair legal process.
