The United States suffered major military and financial losses during the war with Iran, according to a report by the Pentagon’s Inspector General.
The US Department of Defense said the war cost about $33.4 billion.
The Pentagon spent around $22.3 billion on munitions used during the conflict.
Thousands of US Personnel Evacuated
More than 20,000 US military and diplomatic personnel were evacuated from the region during the war, the report said.
US forces also carried out about 5,000 flights from European bases to support military operations.
The United States suffered more than $208 million in losses in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, according to the report.
US Drones and Aircraft Lost
The Inspector General’s report said US forces lost 30 drones during the conflict.
It also reported the loss of several military aircraft.
These included F-15, F-35 and A-10 aircraft, according to the report.
The report also said Iran destroyed a major US Navy logistics facility in Bahrain.
Pentagon Moves to Rebuild Stockpiles
The Pentagon is now working to speed up weapons procurement and production, the report said.
It is also working to increase stocks of key military equipment.
The report covers the first four months of the war.
Congress required the Inspector General to prepare the assessment.
The findings highlight the military costs of the conflict and the challenges facing the US in rebuilding its weapons stocks.
