WASHINGTON: The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution seeking to limit President Donald Trump’s war powers over the ongoing conflict with Iran.
The House approved the measure by 220 votes to 204 on September 15. All Democrats and seven Republicans supported the resolution.
The measure marks the third House effort to end the Iran war through a war powers resolution. It would seek to halt further U.S. military action unless Congress gives the required authorization.
Resolution Calls for End to Iran War
The resolution calls for an end to the U.S. military campaign against Iran and the withdrawal of American forces.
However, the House vote does not by itself end U.S. military operations. The measure would face further action in the Senate before it could become effective. Earlier efforts to limit Trump’s war powers also faced obstacles in Congress.
The latest vote comes weeks before the November midterm elections. The Iran conflict has become an important issue in Congress, with lawmakers debating its military, financial and economic costs.
Iran War Cost Tops $38 Billion
The financial cost of the conflict has also drawn attention in Washington.
The Congressional Budget Office said the Defense Department had spent more than $38 billion on the war as of August 1, 2026. CBO also estimated that the conflict could add up to $3 billion per month, depending on its intensity.
The CBO estimates cover military costs linked to the conflict. They include expenses for replacing equipment and munitions. The estimate does not include some longer-term costs.
The latest House action therefore adds another congressional challenge over the continuation and cost of the Iran war.
