DUBAI — Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the younger brother of Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has died.
Sheikh Mohammed is also the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister. Dubai has declared 10 days of official mourning after Sheikh Ahmed’s death.
Flags across Dubai will fly at half-mast during the mourning period. The mourning period began on Monday.
Sheikh Mohammed Pays Tribute
Sheikh Mohammed expressed grief over his brother’s death in a message.
He prayed for Allah’s mercy for Sheikh Ahmed. He also asked for patience and comfort for his family and loved ones.
Sheikh Mohammed said his brother was no longer in their sight. However, he would remain in their prayers and hearts.
He also prayed that Sheikh Ahmed would receive a place in Paradise.
Sheikh Hamdan Mourns His Uncle
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also mourned his uncle.
Sheikh Hamdan is the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence. He prayed for Sheikh Ahmed’s forgiveness and mercy.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also offered condolences to Sheikh Mohammed and the Al Maktoum family.
Sheikh Ahmed’s Public Roles
Sheikh Ahmed served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security. He also chaired A.R.M. Holding and had a long association with Al Wasl Sports Club.
His death has prompted an official period of mourning across Dubai.
