Iran’s Army has begun upgrading its missiles and plans to increase their range and speed, Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akrami-Nia said.

He said the decision followed the recent war between Iran and the United States. According to Akrami-Nia, US forces are now positioned as far as 1,000 kilometers from Iran’s coastline.

Iran Reviews Missile Capabilities

Akrami-Nia said Iranian missiles performed effectively during the recent conflict. He said the Army had therefore decided to improve their capabilities further.

He added that the planned upgrades would cover all missiles in the Army’s combat inventory.

The improvements will focus on missile speed, range and precision. Future generations of Iranian missiles will have enhanced capabilities, he said.

Iran Cites Attacks on US Forces

The Iranian Army spokesman said Ground Force missiles targeted enemy military bases in Kuwait during the conflict.

He also said the Iranian Navy used sea-launched cruise missiles against enemy vessels.

Akrami-Nia described the missiles used in those operations as effective. However, the claims about the impact of the attacks have not been independently verified.

Missile Upgrades Underway

Akrami-Nia said Iran had already started work to improve its missile capabilities.

He linked the decision to lessons from the recent conflict. In particular, he said the greater distance of US forces from Iran’s coast had created a need for longer-range missiles.

Iranian officials have also said the military used the period after the conflict to review its equipment, update target information and introduce new systems.

The announcement comes as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high. Iran has continued diplomatic efforts while warning that it is prepared to respond if the United States resumes major military action.
