RAHAT, Israel: Israeli authorities have demolished property belonging to Youssef al-Ziadna, a Bedouin minibus driver who helped rescue around 30 Israelis during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attacks.
The demolitions took place in the Negev region near the southern Israeli city of Rahat. Reports say bulldozers destroyed a family home’s remaining foundations, a storage shed and a poultry facility. The operation also affected an area used by his brother’s flock.
Youssef al-Ziadna Rescued Festivalgoers
Al-Ziadna became widely known after the October 7 attacks, when he drove his minibus to help people fleeing the Nova music festival area. He risked his life and helped transport around 30 Israelis to safety.
Israel later recognised his actions with a civilian bravery award. However, the recent demolitions have brought renewed attention to his family’s land and property in the Negev.
Family Property Demolished Near Rahat
According to reports, Israeli authorities used several bulldozers in the al-Ziadna neighbourhood north of Rahat. The operation affected property used by the family, including a storage building and poultry facility.
The family says it presented older documents relating to ownership of the property but could not prevent the demolition. Reports indicate that the action formed part of wider demolition activity in the area.
“I Have No Regrets,” Al-Ziadna Says
Following the demolitions, al-Ziadna said he did not regret helping Israelis during the October 7 attacks.
“We were raised this way,” he said, according to the report.
His remarks highlighted the contrast between the recognition he received for rescuing civilians and the demolition of property used by his family.
