WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said the United States will not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections. He also claimed that Washington and Tehran were holding productive talks.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described Iran’s economic and military situation as extremely weak. However, he said the US blockade would remain fully in place.

Trump Says Talks with Iran Are Progressing

Trump said his administration was engaged in “productive discussions” with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He did not provide details about the latest exchanges or outline a timeline for a possible agreement.

Nevertheless, he made clear that the United States would not launch an attack before the midterm elections on November 3.

Trump also insisted that Iran would not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. Tehran has consistently denied seeking nuclear weapons.

US Blockade on Iran to Remain in Place

Despite describing the talks as productive, Trump said the US blockade would continue without any change.

He also claimed that 22 million barrels of oil had passed through the Strait of Hormuz in a single night. According to Trump, none of that oil came from Iran or was heading to Iran.

However, independent verification of the oil-flow figure was not immediately available. The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital route for global energy supplies, and restrictions on shipping have raised concerns about regional trade and oil prices.

Iran Conflict Remains a Major Challenge

Trump’s announcement comes amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran. Both sides have exchanged proposals aimed at ending the conflict and addressing disputes over the Strait of Hormuz.

For now, Trump’s statement rules out a US attack before the November elections, but it does not rule out military action afterward. Meanwhile, the continuation of the blockade leaves economic pressure on Iran in place.
