Rawalpindi: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at Pakistan’s General Headquarters (GHQ) during her official visit to the country, where both sides held detailed discussions on bilateral relations, regional security, counter-terrorism cooperation, and matters of mutual interest.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on strengthening Pakistan-Canada ties and enhancing cooperation in defence and security. The two sides also exchanged views on the evolving regional security environment and the importance of maintaining peace and stability.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional and global peace, emphasizing that international cooperation and coordinated efforts remain essential to effectively address shared security challenges, including terrorism and transnational threats.
The ISPR said Foreign Minister Anita Anand acknowledged Pakistan’s significant sacrifices and achievements in the fight against terrorism. She appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and recognized the country’s continued contributions to counter-terrorism efforts.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding defence and security cooperation while expressing a shared desire to further strengthen bilateral engagement in areas of common interest. The discussions also covered opportunities to deepen institutional collaboration and broaden strategic ties between the two countries.
