GEORGIA, UNITED STATES: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is not yet prepared to reach a new agreement with Washington, despite asserting that Tehran is eager to negotiate.
Speaking at a political rally in the US state of Georgia, Trump said Iran has repeatedly attempted to alter the terms of previous agreements, arguing that the current circumstances do not favor a new deal.
“They’re getting hit so hard, and they want to make a deal. But I say they’re not ready to make a deal because every time they make a deal they want to change it,” Trump told supporters.
The US president predicted that Iran would eventually return to negotiations, adding, “They’re not ready. They’ll be ready very soon.”
Trump also defended ongoing US military operations near the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the objective is to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. However, he did not explain how the military actions in the strategic waterway are directly linked to Iran’s nuclear program.

Highlighting global energy supplies, Trump said the United States and Venezuela together account for a significant share of the world’s oil resources, arguing that Washington does not depend on the Strait of Hormuz for energy security.
“We don’t need the Hormuz Strait, but we have to act because we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
The remarks come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, with both sides exchanging threats as concerns grow over regional security, maritime stability, and the future of diplomatic efforts surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program.
