WASHINGTON, The U.S. Department of Defense has released updated casualty figures from the ongoing conflict with Iran, revealing a significant increase in the number of American service members wounded since the war began earlier this year.
According to the Pentagon’s latest update to its Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), more than 140 additional wounded troops have been added to the official database. The department also reinstated four U.S. service members recently killed in Iranian attacks into its casualty records.
The updated figures show that, since the outbreak of the conflict on February 28, a total of 18 U.S. military personnel have been killed and 624 have been wounded.
New Overseas Operations Category Introduced
The Pentagon has also introduced a new “Overseas Operations” category within the DCAS database. The category records casualties from overseas military operations beginning July 7, although it does not specify the particular conflict or mission associated with each casualty.
When combined with casualty data from Operation Epic Fury, the figures provide the most comprehensive accounting of U.S. military losses during the Iran conflict to date.

Previous Criticism Over Casualty Reporting
Last week, U.S. lawmakers and several media organizations criticized the Pentagon after the DCAS database appeared to underreport casualties despite continuing Iranian attacks on American forces in the region.

Although the Pentagon has now updated its records, the new “Overseas Operations” category does not identify the specific military campaigns responsible for the casualties.
However, U.S. media reports indicate that the database includes the names of troops killed during major incidents, including three American soldiers killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan and one service member killed last week while attempting to neutralize an Iranian drone in northern Iraq.
The updated casualty figures come as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, with military operations continuing across multiple locations in the Middle East.
