WASHINGTON, — The United States has confirmed that the next round of US-mediated negotiations between Israel and Lebanon will take place in Rome from August 4 to August 6, as both sides continue efforts to implement last month’s framework agreement aimed at achieving a lasting peace.
According to a statement issued by the US State Department, technical teams from Israel and Lebanon will participate in the three-day talks, focusing on expanding the pilot-zone process, resolving remaining border disputes, and advancing negotiations toward a comprehensive peace and security agreement.
The upcoming discussions follow the Israeli military’s first withdrawal from a pilot zone in southern Lebanon last week. However, Lebanese authorities have accused Israel of slowing efforts by the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to establish control over the area after the withdrawal.
Despite those concerns, the State Department expressed confidence that the transition process is progressing successfully.
“The experience of the initial zones will help us refine the pilot-zone implementation so it can expand in a phased manner,” the department said.

US officials also reaffirmed that the Trilateral Framework Agreement, signed by Israel and Lebanon last month with US mediation, remains the only viable path toward long-term peace and regional stability.
“The Trilateral Framework is the only path to lasting peace. Fully implementing it is in the clear interest of both countries, and the Trump Administration is committed to its success,” the statement added.
The negotiations come amid political uncertainty in Israel, where observers have questioned whether additional military withdrawals could be delayed as the country prepares for October’s Knesset elections.
