Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi says Iran will not be intimidated by threats from US President Donald Trump.
He also said Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, Tehran will decide when to open or close the strategic waterway.
Iranian media reported the comments after Trump threatened to declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory.
Iran Rejects Trump’s Threat
Gharibabadi responded to Trump’s remarks in a post on the social media platform X.
He said no tweet, aircraft carrier, order or election speech could take control of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister also rejected what he called US claims of strategic success. Instead, he said Washington had suffered major strategic setbacks.
Tehran Claims Control Over the Strait
Gharibabadi said the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran and will remain under Iranian control.
He stressed that Iran will make decisions about closing or reopening the waterway.
Furthermore, he said Iran would continue its blockade until the United States accepts what he described as its strategic defeat.
The Iranian official also called on Washington to abandon what he described as unrealistic expectations.
Trump Raises Tensions Over Hormuz
Trump recently said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory after defeating Iran.
His remarks have added to tensions over the strategically important waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major route for global energy shipments. Therefore, any disruption could affect international oil and gas markets.
Gharibabadi, however, said Iran would not change its position because of US threats.
