Norway’s newly appointed Ambassador to Pakistan, Sigvald Tomin Hauge, met Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mawlawi Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, in Islamabad.
Norway’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Bjørn Staurset Jahnsen, also attended the meeting. The two sides discussed Afghanistan-Norway relations and recent developments.
Regional Situation Discussed
The diplomats also exchanged views on the regional situation. They discussed other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
The talks come as Norway continues to engage on Afghanistan-related issues. Norway has also raised concerns about the humanitarian and human rights situation in Afghanistan at international forums.
At the same time, Norway maintains diplomatic relations with Pakistan and works with Islamabad on several areas. These include human rights, education, climate issues and support for vulnerable communities.
Focus on Afghanistan Relations
The meeting brought together Norway’s new envoy to Pakistan and its special representative for Afghanistan with the Afghan diplomatic mission in Islamabad.
The discussions focused on bilateral ties, regional developments and shared concerns. However, no further details of the meeting were made public.
