CAIRO — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Cairo on Tuesday.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to close security cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia Review Strategic Ties
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the strategic relationship between the two countries.
They also discussed ways to expand cooperation across several fields.
The talks covered issues affecting the Arab and Muslim worlds.
The leaders also discussed the situation in the Middle East.
They focused on regional security and stability, maritime security and freedom of navigation.
Both sides discussed ways to coordinate their efforts on these issues.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Adviser Dr Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban also attended the meeting.
Egypt Supports Saudi Arabia’s Security
According to Arab News, President El-Sisi said the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states forms part of Egypt’s national security.
The Egyptian presidency said Egypt condemned any attack against Saudi Arabia.
It also expressed support for Saudi measures to defend the Kingdom’s security.
Focus on Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab
The two countries also agreed on the need to protect freedom of navigation.
Their discussions included the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab.
The issue has gained importance amid rising regional tensions.
The Egyptian presidency said the interests of Egypt and Saudi Arabia remain closely linked.
It added that the two countries share common goals.
Earlier, President El-Sisi welcomed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the airport after his arrival in Cairo for an official visit.
