Pakistan has called for faster diplomatic efforts to address the worsening crisis in Yemen.
Speaking at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, warned about the regional impact of Houthi attacks.
He said the attacks pose serious risks to regional peace and stability.
Pakistan Condemns Houthi Attacks
Asim Iftikhar said the spread of Houthi attacks around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has increased tensions.
He described the situation in Yemen as extremely dangerous. He also called for immediate action.
Pakistan strongly condemns all Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, he said.
He added that the attacks could have serious effects on the global economy and energy security.
Warning Over Key Shipping Routes
The Pakistani envoy stressed the importance of keeping major maritime routes safe.
He warned that any threat to key shipping lanes could harm global trade and energy security.
He also said countries must not use vital waterways as weapons.
Pakistan Backs Saudi Arabia
Asim Iftikhar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
He also expressed Pakistan’s full support for Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defense.
At the same time, he said Pakistan would continue supporting sincere efforts to reduce tensions in Yemen.
Pakistan also supports dialogue and a political settlement, he said.
According to the ambassador, an inclusive political settlement can provide a foundation for lasting peace and regional stability.
