TEHRAN — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it shot down another US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian media reported that the IRGC Aerospace Force used a new air defense system to target the drone.
The IRGC said the system works as part of Iran’s wider air defense network.
Iran Releases Images of Drone
Iranian state media also released images that it said showed the destroyed US drone.
However, the US military has not publicly confirmed the Iranian claim.
The latest report follows several Iranian claims about US drones near the Strait of Hormuz in recent days.
Iran Issues Warning to US
The latest claim comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States.
Earlier, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that US bases and interests in the region could face attacks if Washington took military action against Iran.
The Iranian command said any US attack would bring what it described as continuous and damaging strikes against American targets.
However, these statements reflect Iran’s position and warnings. They do not confirm that any new US attack is planned.
Tensions Continue Around Strait of Hormuz
Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of tension between Iran and the United States.
Iran has reported several drone interceptions in the area this month.
On September 15, the IRGC said it had destroyed two more MQ-1 drones near the strategic waterway.
The United States has not confirmed all of the Iranian claims.
The latest incident could further raise tensions around one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
