MOSCOW— Russia’s ruling United Russia party has won 57.83% of the vote in the parliamentary election, according to near-complete results.
The Central Election Commission reported the figure after more than 95% of votes were counted.
The result is higher than the party’s 49.8% share in the 2021 State Duma election. The State Duma is Russia’s lower house of parliament.
United Russia Set for 355 Seats
The current results would give United Russia 355 of the 450 seats in the State Duma.
That total would allow the party to keep its constitutional majority. Election officials said the figure remains based on preliminary results.
United Russia candidates were also leading in 208 of 225 single-member districts, according to the latest count.
The Communist Party was in second place in the party-list vote with 13.81%, followed by the Liberal Democratic Party with 8.98%. New People had 7.96%, according to preliminary figures.
Election Held During Ukraine War
The election was the first Russian parliamentary vote since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
President Vladimir Putin had presented the election as a test of support for Russia during the war.
However, the vote also faced criticism over the political environment. The opposition party Yabloko was removed from the main party-list ballot before the election. Some anti-war politicians also remained in prison or lived outside Russia.
Russia’s Central Election Commission has reported turnout above 59%. Final results are expected later this week.
