Iran says it has already responded to US proposals aimed at ending the war. However, Tehran says Washington’s latest proposals remain similar to earlier ones, with a continued focus on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks at a press briefing on Sunday. He said Iran’s immediate priority was the Strait of Hormuz and the steps needed to restore security in the strategic waterway.
Iran Calls for End to US Sanctions
Baghaei said the United States must address Iran’s concerns over maritime security and stop measures that obstruct Iranian commercial shipping.
He also stressed that lifting US sanctions remains a key Iranian demand. According to the spokesman, Tehran has clearly communicated its priorities through the diplomatic process.
Tehran Reviews Additional Proposals
The Iranian spokesman said Tehran had already conveyed its response to the American proposals through mediators.
He added that Iran was reviewing some additional points linked to the situation following the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Tehran plans to communicate these supplementary points to Washington after completing its assessment.
Baghaei said Iran would continue to present its position and priorities clearly during discussions. These include security in the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of sanctions.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Central to Negotiations
The Strait of Hormuz is a major route for global energy shipments. Disruption to shipping through the waterway has increased pressure on regional security and international energy markets.
Iran says restoring security requires specific steps from the United States, including an end to restrictions on Iranian maritime trade. Meanwhile, Washington’s proposals continue to address the nuclear issue, according to Baghaei.
Diplomatic efforts are continuing, but the latest statements indicate that the two sides still differ over the main priorities for a potential agreement.
