Yemen’s army says it killed at least 700 Houthi fighters in 257 military operations across several fronts in the country.
Military spokesman Col. Majed al-Nuzaili announced the figures in a statement on social media. He said government forces used warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers during the operations.
Operations Target Houthi Military Positions
According to the Yemeni military, the operations covered Sanaa, Midi, Baqim, Al-Jawf, Marib, Al-Bayda and Lahj.
The main operational effort focused on fronts in Taiz, the military said.
The reported targets included command and control centers, troop concentrations and combat reserves. Forces also targeted weapons and ammunition depots, as well as military supply routes and transport assets.
170 Military Vehicles and Assets Destroyed
Al-Nuzaili said preliminary battlefield estimates showed that at least 700 Houthi fighters had been “neutralized.”
He also said the operations destroyed strategic and high-value military targets. In addition, government forces destroyed 170 combat vehicles and other military assets.
The spokesman said the operations had weakened Houthi combat capabilities and reduced their ability to carry out attacks against civilians.
The figures have not been independently verified, and the Houthis had not immediately commented on the Yemeni army’s claims.
Fighting Intensifies in Taiz
The latest announcement comes amid renewed fighting between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and Houthi forces, particularly in Taiz.
Reuters reported that Yemeni government forces recently carried out 20 airstrikes against Houthi personnel, movements, vehicles and military equipment in Taiz province. The escalation follows a period of relative calm after the UN-backed truce that largely halted major fighting in 2022.
The renewed fighting has also raised concerns about the wider security situation in Yemen and its potential impact on Red Sea shipping routes.
