Former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ Convoy Attacked in Poonch, Security Guard Killed

Muzaffarabad: The convoy of former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas came under attack by unidentified gunmen in Poonch Division, leaving one security guard dead and several others injured.

According to initial reports, the attack occurred while Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy was passing through the area. The former prime minister was travelling in a bulletproof vehicle and remained unharmed during the incident.

However, one member of his security detail was killed in the attack, while multiple people sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Following the shooting, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. The assailants reportedly managed to flee the scene immediately after opening fire.

Authorities have also placed security forces across Azad Jammu and Kashmir on high alert, with checkpoints established on key entry and exit routes as part of efforts to apprehend those responsible.

Political leaders and members of civil society strongly condemned the attack, calling for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and a transparent investigation into the incident.

As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the motive behind the attack or the identity of the attackers. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation from multiple angles.
