TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the conflict with the United States will end only when Iran achieves a clear battlefield advantage, stressing that a lasting conclusion to the war can come either through a decisive military victory or through negotiations conducted from a position of strength.
In an interview with Iran’s state news agency, Araghchi said that negotiations are most effective only after a country has secured tangible military and strategic gains on the battlefield.
“The proper time for negotiations is when you have already achieved solid battlefield and strategic successes,” he said, emphasizing that decisions affecting the lives of citizens and the country’s future must be based on careful assessment rather than unnecessary risks.
The Iranian foreign minister added that the country’s political leadership must continuously evaluate whether continuing the conflict serves Iran’s national interests or whether the cost of war has become too high.
Despite acknowledging that Iran has suffered losses during the fighting, Araghchi argued that the conflict has demonstrated the country’s resilience and strengthened its standing internationally.

“Iran has emerged from this war as an influential international power and has demonstrated the strength of its political system,” he said.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington has made multiple attempts to engage Iran diplomatically and intends to continue pursuing negotiations despite the ongoing military confrontation.
The latest statements come as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high following days of military exchanges, with both sides maintaining sharply different positions on the conditions required for ending the conflict.
