TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has accused the United States of attempting to create a pretext for new military strikes against Iran by alleging nuclear activities near the Kolang Kuh area close to Natanz.
In a statement, Baghaei said there are no nuclear activities taking place at Kolang Kuh and described recent US claims as an effort to justify further aggression and acts of sabotage against Iran.
He also questioned the silence of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), asking why the UN nuclear watchdog had not responded to US President Donald Trump’s public threat regarding the alleged site.
“The United States is using the Kolang Kuh narrative to manufacture new excuses for destruction, aggression, and sabotage,” Baghaei said, rejecting allegations that the area hosts any nuclear-related facilities.
His remarks came a day after President Trump said the United States would “very soon” strike the Kolang Kuh area near Natanz when asked about reports of possible Iranian nuclear activity there. Trump stated that Iran would be unable to prevent such an attack and added that Washington had little interest in negotiations unless Tehran was prepared for what he described as meaningful talks.
