TEHRAN, Iran has accused the European Union of double standards on human rights, criticizing the bloc for condemning Tehran’s human rights record while, according to Iran, supporting military actions against the country.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks in response to comments by European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who had expressed concerns over alleged human rights violations in Iran.
Baghaei said the European Union was speaking about human rights on one hand while supporting attacks against Iran on the other.
He alleged that civilians and critical infrastructure had been targeted during recent military strikes on Iran, adding that the EU had remained silent over what he described as war crimes.
“The European Union claims to defend human rights, yet it has shown no concern for children killed in U.S. airstrikes on Iran,” Baghaei said.

The Iranian spokesperson further accused the bloc of acting as a silent observer during the conflict and urged European leaders to adopt what he described as a more consistent approach to international humanitarian issues.
The comments came after Kaja Kallas issued a statement criticizing Iran’s human rights record, adding to growing diplomatic tensions between Tehran and the European Union amid the broader regional crisis.
