Islamabad: Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has raised questions about the recent leadership transition in the United Kingdom, suggesting it came after Britain’s stance shifted during the Iran-Israel conflict.
Speaking in Pakistan, the Iranian envoy claimed that former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had initially refused to support the United States and Israel during the conflict with Iran. According to the ambassador, Starmer later faced allegations of incompetence and resigned under pressure.
Amiri Moghadam further alleged that the new British prime minister, immediately after assuming office, allowed the United States access to British military bases and recalled British diplomatic personnel from Iran.
The ambassador questioned the timing of these developments, asking whether Starmer’s resignation and the subsequent policy changes toward Iran were merely coincidental.
The remarks come amid continued regional tensions and heightened international attention on the evolving geopolitical situation involving Iran, Israel, the United States, and their allies. British authorities have not responded to the ambassador’s claims.
