LAHORE, The Punjab government has appointed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as Chairman of the Heritage Area Revival Board, a body established to oversee the preservation and restoration of Lahore’s historic sites and cultural heritage.
According to an official notification, the appointment was approved by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, following which the Punjab Local Government Department issued the board’s gazette notification.
The notification states that the board has been constituted under the Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Act, 2012, and the decision has taken immediate effect.
Under the government’s decision, Nawaz Sharif will supervise projects aimed at restoring Lahore’s historic landmarks, cultural heritage sites, and centuries-old buildings to their original condition.
The Heritage Area Revival Board has been tasked with strengthening the preservation of Lahore’s historical legacy, accelerating the restoration of heritage structures, and reinforcing the city’s cultural identity through coordinated conservation efforts.
