ISLAMABAD — The Government of Pakistan has approved a long-awaited service structure reform for the Pakistan Railway Police, upgrading the pay scales of key ranks to bring them in line with other national law enforcement agencies.
The decision was made under the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and following continued efforts by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, according to an official statement.
Pay Scales Upgraded
Under the approved reforms:
- Constable pay scale has been upgraded from BPS-5 to BPS-7
- Head Constable has been upgraded from BPS-7 to BPS-9
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been upgraded from BPS-9 to BPS-11
The move fulfills one of the Railway Police’s longstanding demands and aligns its service structure with other security institutions in Pakistan.
Boosting Morale and Performance
Officials believe the revised pay structure will improve the morale, motivation, and professional performance of Railway Police personnel.
The reforms form part of the federal government’s broader institutional modernization agenda aimed at strengthening public-sector organizations and improving operational efficiency.
Recognition for Reform Efforts
The Pakistan Railway Police expressed appreciation for the efforts of Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, describing the pay scale upgrade as a historic milestone for the force.
Officials said the decision would strengthen the department and enhance the welfare of its officers and personnel.
Earlier Merit-Based Recruitment
The ministry noted that the Railway Police had already introduced merit-based recruitment under Hanif Abbasi’s directives.
Those reforms were intended to improve professionalism and operational capability within the force.
Role of Railway Police
The Pakistan Railway Police is responsible for protecting railway passengers, safeguarding railway infrastructure, and maintaining security across the country’s railway network.
Inspector General of Railway Police said the upgraded pay scales would further strengthen the force’s commitment to public safety and professional service.
