ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s opposition parties held their first major joint parliamentary meeting at Parliament House.
Several opposition leaders and parliamentary representatives attended the meeting. The participants discussed the country’s political, economic and security situation.
They also agreed to develop a joint strategy against the government inside and outside Parliament.
Opposition Agrees on Common Position
The opposition parties agreed to adopt a common position on several key issues.
These issues include the protection of the 18th Amendment. They also include constitutional supremacy and judicial independence.
In addition, the opposition leaders agreed to raise public issues through a united platform.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai Calls for Unity
Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai welcomed the opposition’s unity.
He said the joint platform could help restore the Constitution. It could also strengthen Parliament and support an independent judiciary.

Fazlur Rehman Raises Security Concerns
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed serious concern over the country’s security and economic situation.
He said Pakistan could not afford attempts to divide the provinces at this time.
Fazlur Rehman also warned against changes to the 18th Amendment. In his view, such moves could increase mistrust among the provinces.
Meanwhile, he described the law and order situation as deeply worrying.
He also referred to the situation in Kashmir. Fazlur Rehman called for the release of political prisoners to create a peaceful environment.

Nasir Abbas Raises Human Rights Issues
Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also spoke about the rule of law and human rights.
He criticised the alleged failure to implement a Supreme Court order concerning PTI founder Imran Khan’s medical treatment.
Nasir Abbas said the court had ordered Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination.
He also raised concerns about violence in the country. Furthermore, he said citizens were facing serious threats to their safety.
Nasir Abbas called for stronger protection of citizens’ rights.
Barrister Gohar Confirms Joint Opposition Plan
PTI leader Barrister Gohar said all opposition parties had agreed to remain united.
He explained that the opposition would adopt a common position inside Parliament.
The joint strategy will cover several major issues. These include law and order, inflation and Pakistan’s relations with other countries.
Gohar also said the provinces could not be divided through a decision taken in a single day.
PTI Extends Support to Fazlur Rehman
The PTI has assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman of its full support.
The opposition parties are expected to continue consultations on their parliamentary strategy.
Meanwhile, the first joint meeting has created a platform for greater coordination among opposition groups.
The parties now aim to present a united position on major constitutional and national issues.
