WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has placed himself at the top of a personal ranking of American presidents.
Trump shared the ranking on Truth Social on August 27. He placed himself in a category called “The Greatest.”
He placed several famous presidents in the “Great” group. The list included Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson.
Trump Lists ‘Near Great’ Presidents
Trump placed Theodore Roosevelt in the “Near Great” category.
He also included Grover Cleveland, John Adams and James K. Polk in the same group.

Meanwhile, Trump placed former President Bill Clinton and several other presidents in the “Average” category.
The group included James Madison, James Monroe, William Howard Taft and Herbert Hoover.
Trump Calls Five Presidents ‘Failures’
Trump placed six presidents in the “Below Average” category.
The group included John Tyler, Calvin Coolidge, Millard Fillmore, Zachary Taylor, James Buchanan and Franklin Pierce.
However, he placed five presidents in the lowest category, which he called “Failures.”
The list included Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Ulysses S. Grant, Warren G. Harding and Jimmy Carter.
Trump has often attacked Biden and Obama during his political career. He has also sharply criticized the records of several other former presidents.
Several Presidents Missing From Trump’s List
Trump’s ranking did not include every US president.
For example, the list left out Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan.

It also left out Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
The ranking therefore covers only part of the US presidential history.
Trump’s Ranking Differs From Scholars
Trump’s personal ranking differs greatly from assessments by presidential historians.
In a 2024 survey by the Presidential Greatness Project, scholars ranked Abraham Lincoln first. Franklin D. Roosevelt came second, followed by George Washington.
Barack Obama ranked seventh, while Bill Clinton ranked 12th. Joe Biden ranked 14th.
Trump ranked last in that survey, at 45th place.
Trump’s new ranking is therefore a personal view rather than an expert historical assessment.
