France has permanently closed its Consulate General in Karachi.
The French Consulate announced the closure and shared a farewell message for the city.
The message said, “Goodbye Karachi.”
The consulate also thanked its friends and partners in the city.
French and EU Flags Removed
The French Consulate has also removed the French and European Union flags from its building.

France has not ended its diplomatic relations with Pakistan. The French Embassy in Islamabad continues to represent France in the country.
Closure Linked to Budget Reasons
The French government had announced the planned closure earlier this year.
In July, French Consul General Alexis spoke at an event in Karachi to mark France’s National Day.
During his speech, he said the French government had decided to close the Consul General’s office in Karachi because of budget constraints.
The closure now marks the completion of that decision.

The Karachi consulate had provided consular services and supported links between France and the people of southern Pakistan.
Its closure means that France will manage its diplomatic and consular work in Pakistan through its mission in Islamabad.
