US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island on Sunday, a US official said.
The strikes marked the first known US attacks on Iran since late July.
The US official said American forces saw members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) preparing to launch rockets.
The official said the weapons included sea mines intended for the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran Warns of Retaliation
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the US strike killed and wounded several soldiers and civilians.

Iranian state media reported that Tehran would respond to the attack.
The IRGC also warned of what it called a “response and punishment.”
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said the US carried out a drone strike on Larak Island.
The reports could not be independently verified.
Tensions Over Strait of Hormuz
The latest strikes add to growing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway is a key route for global energy shipments.
Before the conflict, about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passed through the strait.
US President Donald Trump said last week that all mines had either been removed or destroyed in international waters around the strait.
He also warned Iran against placing new mines.

Conflict Enters Sixth Month
The latest exchange comes as the Iran war passes the six-month mark.
The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28.

US and Israeli strikes on Iran have caused heavy casualties, while Israeli attacks on Lebanon have also killed and displaced large numbers of people.
Eighteen US service members have reportedly died in the conflict.
